After the vicious slaughter of his family by stone-cold mercenary Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi is exiled to the torturous Netherrealm. There, in exchange for his servitude to the sinister Quan Chi, he’s given a chance to avenge his family – and is resurrected as Scorpion, a lost soul bent on revenge. Back on Earthrealm, Lord Raiden gathers a team of elite warriors – Shaolin monk Liu Kang, Special Forces officer Sonya Blade and action star Johnny Cage – an unlikely band of heroes with one chance to save humanity. To do this, they must defeat Shang Tsung’s horde of Outworld gladiators and reign over the Mortal Kombat tournament.
Non-stop fan service, and a refreshing take on the original story with plenty of surprises for long-time fans. No "rehash" fights from the 90's movies or Legacy internet series (which if you haven't watched yet, get on YouTube and check those out!).
All of your favorites are here from MK1 and a few from 2, just like MK9's story did. Some may complain that a few of the bad guys go down a bit fast, but I prefer the movie be fast and frantic, keeping your heart racing. Otherwise, more plot and talking would have been necessary to flesh them all out, which would have been pointless because they're going down anyway. Lots of "stages" as backgrounds from all the games with great detail, some of which I was pleasantly surprised to see.
Every scene had me smiling, laughing, or literally cheering out loud.
This was a much needed reboot, just like the video games has seen. Brutal fatalities, X-ray moves, all around great fight scenes, and just enough talking for plot and laughs. This is what MK is all about, and I can't wait for the next chapter!
The preview videos don't do it justice, this is a literal bloody masterpiece. The only thing it needed was a higher budget to touch up shadows/lighting on the characters (which would also necessitate a theatrical release), but this is a WB animation. It looks just as excellent as the recent animated Batman or Justice League movies.
Go stream it now if it's available, grab the digital version if that's your thing, or at least Redbox it when it's out on disc. I'll be buying it!
